Wildflower walk

June 13 @ 1:00 pm3:30 pm

Join us for a gentle guided walk through Ravenscraig Park.

As we go we’ll look at the native wildflowers and other plants that surround us, and have a chat about their medicinal and nutritional properties. There will be a chance to learn some basic plant identification and botany if you’re interested.

We’ll responsibly gather wildflowers and leaves, and after walking for about 30 to 45 minutes, arrive at Ravenscraig Walled Garden to arrange them in a sheltered space, over a light vegan lunch. We’ll give you a glass jar to take home to use as a vase for your flower arrangement.

The walk will be paced according to the needs of the participants, and we’ll be able to choose a type of path and gradient that suits you. There are wheelchair-accessible paved paths as well as more rugged, unpaved paths, and we’ll have the option to branch into two parties if need be. There are benches regularly spaced along the route, and we can pause and sit whenever needed.

Please bring:

  • A bottle of water to drink.
  • Any snacks you’d like, and your own lunch if you prefer.
  • Suitable shoes and a coat for our changeable weather.
  • Any wheels or walking aids you need or would like to use.

We welcome anything you can bring to make participating easier for you, such as ear defenders or fidget toys. The walk is well-behaved dog-friendly, but if a dog on the walk would be a barrier to your taking part, please let us know.

This event has been generously funded by the Fife Communities Climate Action Network, and is part of the Fife Climate Festival!

We’ll meet:

At the carpark at the Kirkcaldy entrance to Ravenscraig Park. There are toilets here.

We’ll end:

In Ravenscraig Walled Garden, which has an accessible toilet and drinking water.

You can leave whenever you’d like. If you’d like to be accompanied back to the starting point of the walk, one of the walk leaders will be able to take a group back at the end.
